Shadowary’s Emotional Return: New Single “Hourglass” Marks Musical Milestone

After 5 years of musical soul-searching, Shadowary is back with a new single “Hourglass”. Juxtaposing haunting acoustic piano motifs with seven-string electric guitar distorted riffs and raw emotional vocals, “Hourglass” is about redeeming yourself for your past mistakes. 

After releasing debut EP “MANIFEST” back in 2019, Benny Ng, frontman/vocalist/songwriter of Shadowary went on a lengthy break in search of his musical identity. He had long been inspired by Linkin Park but felt he needed more musical references in order to make the music he heard in his head. He scoured through different genres of music and did extensive research into metal music. Metalcore had this unique combination of heavy music and pop sensibilities that appealed to Benny. He was also captivated by the beauty of the grand piano and how it forms a soothing contrast to the grittiness of metalcore.  

“Hourglass” was almost entirely remotely completed. Through SoundBetter (a musician collaboration website), Benny enlisted the help of metalcore producer Uros Borsic from Slovenia to produce the track. Vocals were recorded locally by Ben Worsey from Everland Studio. The track was then mixed by Matt Dougherty from Chicago, USA and mastered by Fred Miller from Denmark.
